Sigmund Rascher discovered how humans react to freezing temperatures. These experiments started at Dachau, but were then moved to Auschwitz so he could have a larger facility. This helped him because his concentration was interrupted every time a victim screamed while they were being frozen.
Before he moved to Auschwitz, he also performed the high-altitude experiments at Dachau, where he would dissect some of the victims' brains while they were still living. The rest were then executed after the experiments. |
Hans Eppinger tested the potability of seawater on Gypsy inmates at Dachau, who only drank salt water. The victims had gotten so dehydrated that they were seen licking the floors after they were mopped. The reason behind this was to see if anyone died between 6 and 12 days of drinking only seawater. Eppinger killed himself, most likely by poison, a week before he was to attend the Nuremberg Trials.
